Disposition:

Loyal: To a fault. After forming a contract with Rex Lapis during the Archon war to protect Liyue and it's people, Xiao dedicated his entire existence to upholding it. His devotion knows absolutely no bounds, forgoing even eating and sleeping to keep a constant, vigilant watch over anything that would threaten the peace of Liyue. Luckily being an Adeptus means he doesn't necessarily need to eat or sleep, a luxury that he finds a waste of him time as he'd rather spend his days hunting down any monster that dare to cross his path. If there is ever anyone that tried to get him to do anything but, he would easily and quickly turn down any kind of invitations, often stating that it would be useless for someone like him to waste his time with mortal affairs.

Solitary: Yet his avoidance of mortals is not without its reason. Xiao carries a heavy karmic debt due to the many years and years of violent acts he committed while under the rule of an ancient god. Before his time with Rex Lapis, Xiao had been forced to enact many cruelties during the Archon war which ranged from untold bloodshed to eating people's dreams. Even after he had been saved and became one of five yaksha under Rex Lapis' contract, the karmic debt only continued to accumulate. His debt comes out in various forms, bringing him to suffer unfathomable pains and fears that would push him to the edge of insanity. For most of the five yaksha, they were unable to handle it and succumbed. Fighting began amongst themselves and they were all but wiped out, having killed each other or disappeared save for Xiao who remains the sole surviving yaksha protecting Liyue.

Xiao is always efficient in taking care of his karma, seeking to deal with his burden alone and deal with whatever monsters become consumed by his karma as well. He's seen the way monsters become more vicious and wrathful as a result of his karmic influence and it's exactly why his karmic debt, more than anything, gives him pause from allowing anyone close to him. He does this not for the sake of himself, but for the sake of others that may become collateral because of his situation. Both as an Adeptus and as a yaksha, he cannot and will not indulge in anything that has to do with humans. It's unknown to him however that while Paimon and the Traveler have been around Xiao for longer than most, they had already been stained by his karma with no type of adverse results. The only thing it has ever done was allow old spirits to recognize Xiao's presence through them.

Gentle: However beneath the seemingly callous exterior, Xiao cares greatly for people. His cold demeanor and his seemingly uninterested reactions to everything mortal is because he is trying to protect others from himself. Though it all had started with a contract millennia ago, Xiao had no obligation to continue it once Rex Lapis had faked his death and Liyue was left in the hands of its people to protect and govern. Yet he remained doing the same as he always had done, watching over the people and continuing to protect them.

Although some fear the name Xiao had built, as he intended, there are those that know better. Wangshu Inn serves to house Xiao and give him respite should he seek it and it's unspoken but Xiao appreciates the effort made on his behalf. They all speak fondly of their Vigilant Yaksha, wanting to help make him comfortable and at peace so long as he's there. Likewise there are stories scattered around Liyue Harbor residents that speak of how he personally saved them from danger. Despite his attempt at a lone existence, his caring heart towards others is something even he can't hide. If there is someone who needs him from something as big as being saved from a monster to something as small as taste testing food for a cooking competition - Xiao will answer the call.

Attempting To Understand: It was only after he crossed paths with the Traveler that Xiao found himself curious about mortals. He had spent over two thousand years in solitude but the Traveler sparked a flame that begged to be ignited. He seeks to understand humanity, using the Traveler as an example. He still holds reservations on how close he can actually get but he at least seems to be more willing. He even asks the Traveler after they've befriended each other enough if they'd like to go to Liyue Harbor with him, so he can better understand its people. Though he also promises to talk as little as possible while they're there - it's a step in the right direction if nothing else.

Suitability: Arriving on Noctium will undoubtedly induce a culture shock as Xiao has only ever known his little corner of his home world. There would be an urgency within him to figure out a way back home, feeling that he abandoned his duty even if unwillingly. Given that there is no easy way to do so, it's not as if Xiao is adverse to helping the other gembond or the natives either. Xiao will always be more than willing to help others and protect them, no matter the time or place.

Aside from the obvious for Xiao, as far as synchrony with others - it will prove a difficult hurdle for him to overcome but one that is long overdue for him. Because he relies on the use of his anemo vision and his powers to get around and to fight, he'll frequently drain his manna as a consequence. Which means he'll need to sync with others and preferably at a deeper level for even more manna. Xiao has lived a chosen solitary existence up until now, he's either very likely to fall to manna hunger or worse, or figure out how to navigate forming deep bonds with others.

As he changes while on Noctium, Xiao will likewise have a hard time adapting to the differences in his emotions and actions that derive from his increased emotional states. The physical he can deal with easily enough, he doesn't care much for how his appearance might differ. It's the inward changes that cause him to act strangely that will really bother him. He won't know how to handle the sudden possessive temperaments (towards people especially) and may see fit to just shut himself away from anyone he might react intensely around.

All in all the mechanics and setting of Noctium will serve to test what Xiao has always abided by. It will push him out of his comfort zone and into new territory which he has sorely needed to explore. It's just the push he needs.

Condition upon arrival: Perfectly fine though he still carries his karmic debt with him which will have adverse, painful effects on him from time to time.

Abilities: A brief video to showcase animations.

Whirlwind Thrust: Basic attack with his polearm, can chain the attacks together up to 6 hits. Can also perform plunging attacks with it which he is very practiced in so takes little to no recoil from the plunge.

Lemniscatic Wind Cycling: Using the power of his anemo vision, Xiao is able to lunge forward at least twice and can perform said lunges in mid-air as well.

Bane of All Evil: Xiao wears his yaksha mask to strike down his enemies. While he is wearing the mask his abilities are greatly increased, allowing him to move faster, jump higher, and deal every swing of his spear with constant anemo damage. This doesn't come without its cost however as while Xiao continues to wear his yaksha mask it'll cause him constant pain and slowly but surely drain away at his life force until he's removed from the fight.
